Spouse, Civil Partner & Unmarried Partner Visas

You can apply for a spouse visa if your partner is a British citizen, has settled status or has indefinite leave to remain in UK.  This also applies to a person who has indefinite leave in the UK as a refugee or a person granted humanitarian protection you can make an application you’re your spouse to enter the UK.

There are other partner visas such as Unmarried partner visa, Civil partner which will allow you to apply for spouse visa. 

Requirements for spouse visas.

You must meet the following requirements and provide evidence that:

  • You are in a genuine and subsisting relationship.

  • Your British partner settled or has indefinite leave to remain is earning at least £18,600 per annum (this will go up to £29,000 on 11th April 2024, at a later date will go up to £38,700).

  • If relying on savings, then £62,500 should be in account for 6 months.

  • You have suitable accommodation in the UK.

  • You will need to the meet the English language requirement:   A1 Life skills IELTS English language test.

  • There are exceptional circumstances to meet the financial requirement if your British Partner is in receipt of certain benefits.

  • You will require a Tuberculosis test if your country is listed on the list.

 

If you meet the requirements above you will be granted entry clearance into the UK as a partner for 2.5 years subject to no recourse to public funds.

Once the visa is granted in your passport you will be given one month visa to enter the UK and collect your biometric residence card from selected post office as stated in your visa application.

If the Entry Clearance Officer (ECO) refuses you partner visa, then you have 28days to file your appeal within date of receipt of the refusal letter.
